macOS Mojave feature that you did not know

Although many people look forward to MacOS Mojave because of the beautiful and handy Dark Mode, Apple introduces much more than that this fall. We have put a number of features on a list that will also come in handy later on.

1. Continuity Camera

One feature that you may have missed is Continuity Camera. This allows you to work the camera of your iPhone better together on the Mac, making it possible for example to put a document that you scan with your iPhone camera directly on your Mac. You activate the iPhone to take a photo or scan a document via the Mac, then do this with your phone and the file is automatically added to your Mac.

2. Favicons in Safari

If Safari is your favourite browser on the Mac, you will find support for favicons a welcome addition. These are the small icons that stand beside your tabs and bookmarks, which not only look prettier to the browser but also show you which tab refers to which web page. You may not notice it immediately, but it is a smart change that Apple makes.

3. Updating via the System Preferences

Updating a Mac (Book) is done through the Mac App Store for years, but Mojave is changing that. The 'Software update' section is moved to the System Preferences, which is a much more logical place to check for new versions. If you open the System Preferences, you will immediately see the update section. There you can also choose to automatically install updates.

4. Safer passwords

Just like iOS 12, macOS Mojave gets new options to generate secure passwords, which can also be done with a separate password manager. Also useful is that you can share difficult passwords via AirDrop with, for example, a friend, partner or family member.

Furthermore, from now on you can ask Siri for your password for a particular service. For example, if you open the Spotify website and you say "Hey Siri, what is my password for Spotify," the assistant will make sure you can fill it out automatically. This also works with the iCloud keychain.

5. Dynamic wallpapers and modified login screen

A cool visual function is the dynamic wallpapers, which automatically colours with the day parts. So you get a sun-drenched desert in the morning, and it gets darker in the evening. Finally, the login screen of macOS Mojave is provided with larger icons and a longer field to enter your password. You will also see recently-used apps in your Dock and you will have more options to edit screenshots as standard.
