Important news for all Microsoft Office users: if you are one of those who use an Office 365 subscription plan, you will have to check if your Mac is updated enough. Microsoft is going to launch Office 2019 for Mac next month, and it will only be compatible with macOS Sierra, High Sierra or Mojave.

As all Office 365 users are entitled to permanent updates, the timing of their Office 2016 to 2019 will be completely transparent. But of course, if you have macOS El Capitán installed or an earlier version, that update will not be able to be done.

Office 2016 stays, but beware of getting used to it

Does this mean that if you do not upgrade to macOS Sierra or a later version of the system you will no longer be able to use Office 365? Fortunately, no. You will still be able to use it with the 2016 version of the Office for Mac package, but you will not be able to enjoy all the news that comes with Office 2019.

Recalls that previous versions of Office for Mac, as 2011, ceased to have official support from long. They may continue to work on your computer, but Microsoft will not be held responsible for any error or hang that involves a loss of data. It is best to always use the most recent versions in order to be protected, and in the absence of that, you always have to use versions that have official support.
